A Fresh Set of Detentions Executed in Connection to Paris Louvre Museum Precious Gems Heist

Four additional suspects were taken into custody in the context of the ongoing investigation into the previous theft of valuable jewelry at the Louvre Museum, per reports from the Parisian legal officials.

Specifics of the Newest Detentions

Two male suspects, in their late thirties, and two female individuals, 31 and 40 years of age, were arrested on Tuesday. All are from the Paris region.

One of those detained is thought to be the remaining individual of a group of four that reportedly executed the daylight heist, as reported by French media. The remaining trio alleged robbers were previously detained and charged, authorities state.

Law enforcement has been granted a maximum of four days to conduct interviews. No trace has yet been uncovered of the taken jewelry - appraised at eighty-eight million euros - which were stolen on October 19th.

Previous Charges and Denials

Four people have already been charged concerning the theft - three male and one female suspects, who similarly reside within the greater Paris.

One female, aged 38 was indicted in recent weeks with aiding organized theft and criminal conspiracy intended to carry out unlawful acts.

Separately, a man, aged 37, was accused of robbery and illegal conspiracy.

These two suspects, who have not been named publicly, have rejected all accusations.

How the Heist Took Place

The heist happened when the quartet of male perpetrators utilized a stolen mechanical lift attached to a vehicle to enter the Galerie d'Apollon (Gallery of Apollo) by means of a balcony close to the River Seine.

The thieves utilized a cutting disc to force open showcases housing the jewellery.

The robbers remained within for four minutes and executed their getaway on a pair of scooters positioned externally at 09:38 in the morning, before changing to vehicles.

One taken artifact - a royal crown - was dropped during the escape but eight additional pieces of jewellery - featuring an emerald and diamond necklace that Napoleon I gave his second wife, the Empress Marie-Louise - were appropriated.

Security Shortcomings and Aftermath

It has been stated that the theft was performed by small-time offenders as opposed to sophisticated criminal organizations.

In the immediate aftermath of the heist, it was disclosed by the museum's director that the sole surveillance camera observing the Galerie d'Apollon was directed away from the balcony scaled by the robbers to gain entry.

The president of the Louvre has since admitted that the museum had failed in its obligations, but rejected claims that security was neglected - stating that from the time she took office in 2021 she had been repeatedly cautioning of the need for more investment.

Enhanced Protective Steps

In the wake of the robbery, security measures have been tightened around French heritage sites.

Officials have relocated numerous highly prized jewelry items to the French central bank in the aftermath of the robbery.
