Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.

A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a category of their own.”

Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.

“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”

Production History and Star-Studded Lineup

The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.

The diverse array of artists featured on Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for relief efforts.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The track features a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.

The team running the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.

“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”

The reality in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.

“In that context, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”

The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
