Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian ODI Lineup Against Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected selection.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI side after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.

Bowling Additions and Injury News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
